Online NCEA opportunity for schools with ClassroomNZ2020
Online courses developed by Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) are being made available to schools to support students in NCEA.
The Ministry of Education is working on making available ClassroomNZ2020, a new platform with a range of online courses, as an interim support for learners until the end of February 2021.
ClassroomNZ2020 will offer schools access to online NCEA courses developed by Te Kura to support students’ learning as they transition back to their learning environment. This is optional and will not replace existing Learning Management Systems. Year 9 and 10 courses may follow.
“Te Kura is pleased to provide our resources and expertise to this Ministry-led initiative for our education community,” Mike Hollings, Chief Executive of Te Kura said.
“We also welcome the opportunity for our community to get some insight into the provision of teaching and learning at Te Kura.
“Our school has been through a remarkable transformation from paper-based provision to an engaging and very personalised online learning environment.
“While Classroom 2020 is understandably not as extensive or personalised as our school’s own online learning environment, it will still give users some insight into teaching and learning with our country’s largest school,” Mike Hollings said.
ClassroomNZ2020 is intended to support schools’ existing offerings to students. Schools may only enrol domestic and international students in ClassroomNZ2020 in subjects already offered by that school.
Schools who require support in subjects they do not normally offer will continue to register eligible students for dual tuition with Te Kura

Te Kura, formerly The Correspondence School, is a state-funded distance education provider. The school offers a wide range of personalised learning programmes and courses, from early
childhood to NCEA Level 3, which are mostly delivered online.
